Part of Stadtarbeit at Vienna Design Week 2024, Kiosk T//Waste is a mobile kitchen that takes rescued ingredients—discarded from local businesses—and transforms them into delicious vegetarian meals.

Kiosk T//Waste tackles the hidden problem     of                         food waste in commercial kitchens, and invites the
public to rethink what is classified as             waste within kitchens,  all while tempting your taste buds.

Follow the kiosk as it hops between locations—cook, eat, sit with us, or tune in to live radio shows with Elevator Radio!                 The kiosk mobile kitchen is made possible with the support of Chmara Rosinke’s ‘Mobile Hospitality’ and Caritas.

🗓️

Saturday, 21 September

Kiosk I: Archiving

Venue: Wien Mitte The Mall
Landstraßer Hauptstraße 1B

11am-5 pm

Design partner: Chmara Rosinke
In the heart of Vienna's third district, Wien Mitte, the city’s largest mall, welcomes thousands of visitors daily to its shared spaces. Within this space, Kiosk T//Waste turns the spotlight on industrial kitchens, some of the biggest contributors to the food waste crisis. Located at the mall's entrance, we rescue ingredients from various industrial sources, ranging from supermarket sandwich bars to pre-prepared fast food. Through our archiving system, these ingredients are given new life, reimagined onto our plates.

Kiosk II: Discussion and Recipe Building

Venue: Arenbergpark
Flakturm Arenbergpark, Dannebergpl. 9

12pm-4 pm

Design partner: Chmara Rosinke
Before we start cooking, we focus on building recipes that encourage a more mindful approach to what’s in our fridge. This last happening will look to our kitchens at home and explore how we can reduce waste within our own meals. At our pop-up installation in the park, we will host spaces for open discussion exploring food waste systems and how we engage with the food waste issue on a personal level.

We invite the public to see ingredients in a new light through recipe building - finding creative ways to use every item, reduce waste and make the most of what we have whilst still enjoying delicious meals!

Saturday, 28 September

Kiosk III: Cooking

Venue: Rochusmarket
Landstraßer Hauptstraße 03

12pm-4 pm

Design partner: Chmara Rosinke
Discover the freshest produce from local organic farms and engage in a sustainable food system at Vienna’s own Rochusmarkt, where our final kiosk will take place.

Kiosk T//Waste invites the public to taste vegan appetisers that are made from rescued ingredients from The Wien Mitte and the neighbouring third district surroundings throughout Vienna Design Week. Join us as we explore how repurposing "waste" can transform both our kitchens and our city spaces.

To wrap up Vienna Design Week, T//Waste invites you to a surprise dinner that will challenge everything you think you know about food. This experience contrasts the typical fast-paced, mass-produced meals found in shopping malls, offering instead a slow, mindful approach that reimagines common ingredients in unexpected ways.

In collaboration with Cucina Alchimia and Design in Gesellschaft (Julia Schwarz and Philipp Loidolt-Shen), we’ll take you where nothing is quite what it seems. Be ready for ingredients disguised in ways—and a dining experience thats broken into pieces. Curious? Join us!

The ingredients for this dinner were gathered from Wien Mitte The Mall during the duration of Vienna Design Week.
